The Neuromodulation Division is part of the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. We are proud to be part of an academic institution and we are committed to advancing the field of Neuromodulation through teaching and research.

We firmly believe that Neuromodulation represents the future of psychiatry. We are committed to teaching and we enjoy sharing our passion for this important and exciting field with the next generation of clinicians. We routinely work with interested psychiatry residents, medical students, psychology interns, and undergraduate and graduate students from multiple disciplines. Interested UCLA students are welcome to shadow or participate in clinic or to participate in research.

In partnership with the UCLA Psychiatry Residency Training Program, we offer three formal educational experiences for psychiatry residents:

Neuromodulation Elective:

The Neuromodulation Elective is a 1 month full-time elective rotation open to interested PGY-2 residents. The elective includes clinical experiences at UCLA and the West Los Angeles VA including exposure to TMS, DBS, IV ketamine, esketamine, and oral ketamine.

UCLA TMS Clinic:

This is a 6 month or 12 month elective rotation open to interested PGY-3s and PGY-4s. The UCLA TMS clinic primarily focus on the evaluation of patients for TMS treatment, formulation of a TMS treatment plan, and practical aspects of TMS delivery and treatment. Residents completing this rotation will be well equipped to provide TMS as part of their practice.

The Neuromodulation Concentration:

This is a longitudinal residency experience providing formal training in neuromodulation to prepare future leaders in the field. Enrollment begins in PGY-2 and requires identification of a faculty mentor. Faculty in our division are committed to teaching and mentoring residents with an interest in neuromodulation.
